Cooler Coolers

Imagine yourself at a backyard BBQ on July 4th. The temperature is a sweltering 90º, and you want a cold pop out of the cooler. You briefly walk away from your corn hole game to get yourself a cold sodie from the beat-up cooler. When you open it up, you accidentally throw the lid off, forgetting the hinges are broken. You look inside and see no ice. “Well, I’m sure they iced it down hours ago; it has to be still cold.” You tell yourself hopefully. You reach in, and what do you feel? Lukewarm water like somebody just peed in the pool next to you. The soda is warm, you lose at corn hole, and your day is ruined.
Roy and Ryan Seiders decided to solve this cooler problem by founding YETI.
“Growing up, my brother and I always had a passion for the outdoors...But the coolers available at the time just weren’t up to our outdoor adventures – the handles would break, the latches would snap off, and the lids would cave in.”
– Roy & Ryan Seiders
Founded in 2006, YETI started making coolers and has since expanded into drinkware, apparel, and even dog bowls. They have developed a cult following due to the high quality of their product. As a result, their products have gained worldwide fans. As an owner of a YETI mug and water bottle, I can confidently say those are the only two vessels I drink out of daily.
YETI delivers high-quality products that serve and preserve a need I have daily. Sure it will cost you a pretty penny, but it is an investment you will have for much longer than any other mug. Other brands do a decent job for a reasonable price, but most of my non-YETI drinking vessels broke after about a year. In contrast, I have had the same YETI rambler since the August of 2018.
Although not directly stated on their site or mission statement, YETI products provide “preservation.” The goal is to make a long-lasting product that will keep its contents hot or cold for as long as possible. Their products even come with a five or 3-year warranty, depending on which one you buy. Don’t you wish that certain things in life could come with a similar failsafe?
Like a YETI cooler, we all have things we want to preserve in life. Knowing how to prolong these experiences and resources is an incredible tool. So, let’s make moves to preserve the things that matter and things that bring us joy.
